Terms of Service

These terms set out the rules for using Scout. Please read them carefully - using the API or the website means you accept them.

last updated -- 21 May 2026

01Acceptance of terms

These Terms of Service govern your access to and use of the Scout API, website, and related services (together, the "Service"). By creating an account, generating an API key, or sending a request to the Service, you agree to these terms. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you are authorised to bind that organisation to these terms.

02The service

Scout is a web-intelligence API. It accepts requests to search, extract, research, enumerate, monitor, and chat over the public web, and returns structured results. The Service is provided on an ongoing basis and may evolve over time as endpoints are added, improved, or refined.

03Accounts and API keys

You are responsible for keeping your account credentials and API keys confidential, and for all activity that occurs under them. Notify us promptly if you believe a key has been exposed. You must provide accurate information and keep it current. You must be able to form a binding contract to use the Service.

04Acceptable use

You agree to use the Service lawfully and responsibly. You must not:

  • >Use the Service to violate any law, infringe intellectual-property rights, or breach the rights of others.
  • >Attempt to access, collect, or process sensitive personal data, or use the Service to surveil, profile, or target individuals.
  • >Probe, scan, overload, or circumvent the rate limits, security, or access controls of the Service.
  • >Resell, white-label, or expose raw Service capacity as a competing API without a written agreement.
  • >Use the Service to generate spam, malware, or content that is deceptive, harassing, or harmful.

05Credits, plans and billing

The Service is metered in credits. Each call consumes a number of credits described on the pricing page; the exact amount is returned with every response. Paid plans renew automatically each billing cycle until cancelled. Fees are stated exclusive of taxes, which you are responsible for where applicable.

We may change pricing or credit rates with reasonable notice. Continued use after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the new pricing.

06Third-party and web content

The Service retrieves and relays content from the public web. That content is created and owned by third parties; Scout does not endorse it and is not responsible for its accuracy, legality, or availability. You are responsible for ensuring that your use of retrieved content - including any storage, display, or downstream processing - complies with the rights of the original publishers and with applicable law.

07Intellectual property

The Service, including its software, documentation, and branding, is owned by Scout and its licensors and is protected by intellectual-property law. These terms grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service. You retain ownership of the inputs you send and the outputs you receive, subject to the rights of third-party content owners.

08Service availability and changes

We work to keep the Service available and reliable, but it is provided without an uptime guarantee unless a separate written agreement says otherwise. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service, and will give reasonable notice of material changes where practical.

09Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. Scout is a research and retrieval tool; outputs may be incomplete or incorrect, and you should not rely on them as a sole basis for decisions with legal, financial, medical, or safety consequences.

10Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Scout will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, or data. Our total aggregate liability arising from or relating to the Service will not exceed the amount you paid for the Service in the three months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.

11Termination

You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these terms, create risk or legal exposure, or use the Service in a way that harms the Service or other users. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination - including intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitation of liability - will survive.

12Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the date below and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
